There is such a wonderful array of bilingual books, spanish boooks and books with Latinx characters out there. I know they can sometimes be hard to find, so here are some reviews for books that I have used during bilingual storytime.
What kind of books should you look for?
I lean towards books that have great, easily visible illustrations. Not a lot of text per page OR it has a story that I can easily skip some pages and not disrupt the flow. Does the book have some cultural representation and if so is it respectful of the source material? Translations should also be easy to read in the translated version. If you are struggling because the Spanish is difficult or perhaps not a kind you’re used to, then perhaps you should choose another text.
I try and keep an updated list of books to use for bilingual storytime but if I missed one of your favorites, just let me know!
